VTDC has a
dedicated fifteen member volunteer Board of Directors that is responsible for
establishing policies and procedures of the Center, and the Executive Director
is responsible for establishing procedures and operations, that carry out those
policies. Each Board Member is
selected from areas that will assist the Center and it’s mission, such as
family members, business owners and industry executives, representatives from
education, banks, attorneys and the local Team Career Link.
VTDC currently contracts to provide a multitude of rehabilitative,
day programs with the Mental Health/Mental Retardation Administrations in
Venango, Forest, Clarion, Crawford, Lawrence, Bedford , Somerset, Clearfield and Jefferson Counties, as well
as, the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Blind and Visual
Services and Oil City, Franklin, Titusville, Valley Grove, , and Cranberry School Districts. In addition, the Center contracts with both the Northwest and
North Central Work Force Investment Youth Councils. VTDC employs over 100 regular staff and more that 280
trainees. Though all of it’s
programs, the Center provides training to over 700 individuals.
The Center utilizes the “Person Centered Approach” in all of our
programs. With the help of the
team, chosen by the trainee, VTDC Program Staff facilitate and develop a
“Person Centered Plan” for each trainee that receives programming in our
Sheltered Workshops or Life Skills Habilitation Programs.
These Plans
look at the trainees’ whole life and what the team needs to work on to help
the trainee reach their chosen goals. A
“Person Centered Plan” can be 15 pages long.
We have been told by the Office of Mental Retardation, during licensing
visits, that they are unaware of any other sheltered workshops or adult training
facilities that perform these plans in the manner we do.
Upon licensing inspections through the state each
year, we continue to receive outstanding ratings, for going above and beyond
what is expected in our facility-based programs to help the trainees succeed.
In 1993, 1996 and again in 2000 the Pennsylvania Association of
Rehabilitation Facilities, Inc. awarded VTDC
with the “Rehabilitation Program Recognition
Award” for the state.
These awards were given “In
recognition of our commitment to developing programs to enrich the lives of
individuals with disabilities”.
We are
licensed by the PA Department of Public Welfare, Office of Mental Retardation
and the Department of Labor, Wage & Hour Division.
We will continue to carry the same levels of liability insurance was we
always have through contracting with the County Programs to ensure the safety of
the trainees. Our dedicated,
quality staff receives 24 hours of training each year to update their knowledge
and skill.
